g1 Gandhinagar is the capital city of Gujarat, India. It is located just north of Ahmedabad, the largest city and the commercial center of the state. It is one of the few planned cities in India. The visitors to the city will be pleasantly surprised at its clean and uncrowded streets lined with abundant trees. Geographically, Gandhinagar is located at 23.22° N 72.68° E. The tropic of cancer runs through the city. It has an average elevation of 81 metres (265 feet). The city sits on the banks of the Sabarmati River.

Due to its proximity to Ahmedabad, which is the city of five million and the seventh largest in India, Gandhinagar is very well connected by road, air, and rail, with all the major cities in India. Gandhinagar does not have its own airport. However, once in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar is only 30 minute drive away. Gandhinagar does have a railway station.

g1 There are very few tourist destinations in the city. However, Akshardham Temple (http://www.akshardham.com/gujarat) located in the heart of the city is a must for any visitor. (description of the temple). The temple is open every day from 9.30 a.m. To 7.30 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday, except for Monday. The admission is free. Unfortunately, the security of the temple is on par with that of an airport, and no photography is allowed in the premise.

The city has many well maintained public parks, where sights of wild animals and birds, such as peacock is common. The city is a delight for the bird watchers. There are many different birds visible at the parks.
