Ahmedabad is the largest city and the commercial capital of Gujarat. Traditionally, the city is the center of textile industry in India and is sometimes referred to as the Manchester of the East. Ahmedabad today is the seventh largest city in India hosting a variety of enterprises such as pharmaceutical and information technology company. The city is also the heart and soul of a large population of overseas Gujaratis rich in cultural activities, which will certainly entertain the visitors to this fascinating city. |

| The climate of Ahmedabad is hot and dry for most of the year, and the temperature can reach 45°C during the summer months of April, May, and June. There is an international airport in the city, which is served by many airlines with flights leaving daily for major domestic cities and international cities including London and Dubai. Ahmedabad is also well served by rail. |

Ahmedabad is an old city. Its history dates back to the 15th century when it was founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah. Modern Ahmedabad was the temporary capital of Gujarat from 1960 to 1970 until the capital was moved to Gandhinagar, a brand new planned city. |

Calico Museum
Ahmedabad has been a major center of textile industry, and this excellent museum is the shrine of the city's legacy. The museum is run by Sarabhai Foundation. There are two tours every day at 10:30 a.m. (religious textiles) and 3:00 p.m. (secular textiles). |

Kankaria Lake
This round-shaped man-made lake is the place where the families relax. It takes about one hour to walk the whole circle. There are zoo, aquarium, and numerous stalls that sells foods and drinks. The zoo has lions, birds, and snakes among others and is definitely worth a visit. |
